"Dance for a XXI Century Token"
Festival Performancear or Die, curated by Gustavo Alvarez,
Norogachi, Chihuahua, México. April 2019
This was a performance series that happened in 2019 during the 11th and last edition of Performancear o Morir, a unique Performance Art Festival that brought together contemporary artists with the indigenous community of Raramuri in Chihuahua State in the North of Mexico.
Based in the somatic movement practice I learnt in New York, I created a series of improvised and poetic performances consisting of simple actions using objects found across the journey such as dry plants, old cans, dried trees Trying to evoke the essence of the human on the inert, the artist made an effort to merge with the surrounding, but instead the performance became also a ritual and moment of recognition of self awareness.

In this particular action, the artist had the opportunity to present his work directly and exclusively for the Raramuri community. The performance consisted of me running while carrying a cement/concrete industrial construction block until exhaustion and then using it as a constraint to my body movements trapping my arms and legs to signify the burden that commercial construction represents for society. After finally breaking the cement block, I took the earth handmade adobe brick and showed respect and affection to this object while rubbing it against me. I wanted to make a point to revalue the traditional construction materials and techniques
